Hi Liberty, I'm not in NZ but I'm quite sure that answer to your question is the same as in England.
The "highest" Degree in Freemasonry is the third or Master Mason. However, and this is what confuses non-Masons, once you are a Master Mason you are able to join further or Appendant Degrees. The consusion comes in as one of these Appendant Orders has a further 29 numbered Degrees that a Master Mason can join, these are not higher (but it can seem that way) but they pick up on elements of the 3 degrees.
