Howdy Im new here but always been a fan of Freemasons since i was old enough to comprehend what they were

anyway what is the highest degree in new zealand ?
im sure the majority of members is around the 3rd degree, i could be mistaken

Hi Liberty, I'm not in NZ but I'm quite sure that answer to your question is the same as in England.

The "highest" Degree in Freemasonry is the third or Master Mason. However, and this is what confuses non-Masons, once you are a Master Mason you are able to join further or Appendant Degrees. The consusion comes in as one of these Appendant Orders has a further 29 numbered Degrees that a Master Mason can join, these are not higher (but it can seem that way) but they pick up on elements of the 3 degrees.

I fully concur with Mike. In the series of degrees known as the Ancient and Accepted Rite (or Rose Croix) it is possible in some US states to cover, and have conferred, every degree from 4 to 32 in a one day seminar. When these people who append 32o to their signature many of us just shake our heads in wonderment.
Although we have side orders consisting of various degrees and Grand Lodge ranks, the fact remains that the 3rd Degree (Master Mason) remains the highest degree in Freemasonry.
