Welcome to Southland

Anyone who is a Freemason or who is considering Freemasonry and who lives in or is moving to or intending to visit Southland, New Zealand, is very welcome talk to me on this forum.

Southland has a proud Masonic tradition going back to 1864 and one of the most splendid Masonic buildings in the Southern hemisphere. Southland itself is true heartland New Zealand and keeps up its reputation for combining traditional family values, environmental conservation and pioneering endeavor. It's as well worth settling here as it ever was.

I am keen to talk about Freemasonry and Southland with anyone who wants to talk.

Hi Martin,

I'm going to be moving south sometime in the next year or two, though only as far as North Otago. I relish the prospect of visiting your Lodge rooms though. Is your newsletter available online? I'm interested to see it.

Fraternally,

Tony Grimwood

I was born in the south island, invercargil. my family migrated to the far south (fort rose) from scotland some 150 years ago. I was wanting to know if there is any history or members list that can be veiwed, as all the family elders claim that my great grandfather (Archibald McEwan) was of the craft.

As i am not yet a member, i was hoping someone could help me with this information.

Hope to be moving back home to invercargil within a year or two but i am only 26 yres old, will this work with the southland lodges?

thanks. Keith

Hi folks,

Sorry I haven't been back in touch via this forum over the last month or so but I have been away traveling.

Any man of good character of 21 years of age or over is eligible for admission into Freemasonry. Young men are most especially welcome.

My webmail address is southerncross9@myway.com or you can correspond with me in confidence via this site.

It is most important that aspirants for Freemasonry obtain for themselves the fullest possible information to enable them to fully understand what Freemasonry is and thereby to make a free and informed decision whether or not to make application to join. The many longstanding and distinguished Freemasons who contribute to this forum will be only too please to assist with free and open discussion and information or confidentially if you so desire.

The Southland Masonic Newsletter is not available on the Internet but I am currently designing a Southland Masonic District web site which could feature the Newsletter at some time in the future. It could be several months before the web site is operational.

Greetings Brother Martin,

I am Rodolfo V. Ledesma, Jr. I'm a Master Mason in the Philippines. I'm from Cebu Lodge #128 which is under the jurisdiction of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines.

I plan to migrate to New Zealand. Although, as of the moment I'm not sure in which city I would be destined.

I'm a nurse by profession and my application is currently being processed by the Nusring Council of New Zealand, upon approval I would then be able to be more specific as to where I would be going.

It would be such a honor to attend lodge meetings in New Zealand and it is in this regard that I humbly ask how I can be accommodated by the brethren in the different lodges in New Zealand. What supporting documents or endorsements from my Lodge or Grand Lodge do I need to present in order to prove that I am a Brother Master Mason in good standing?

Hoping you can guide a brother to the light.

Fraternally,

Rodolfo V. Ledesma, Jr.
Chaplain, Masonic Year 2008-2009
