I'd like to know how lodges maintain their lodge rooms?

A number of Lodge rooms I have visited are poorly lit, badly in need of painting and have minimal heating facilities. I'm guessing the main problem is lack of funds to renovate rooms and update heating etc.

Does anyone have any good ideas on improving the comfortability of Lodge rooms?

Funding is doubtlessly the big issue, especially for those Lodge Rooms with only one 'tenant' lodge. Given the trend towards an elderly and generally declining membership in a lot of lodges, it's not surprising that such difficulties arise. There doesn't seem to be any simple or painless solution, and this is reflected in the Lodge Rooms we see turning up on the property market, and lodges closing and/or amalgamating.

I think that we're going through a decline in membership that attends the peak which occurred after WWII, and all the issues that go with it.

Thanks for your thoughts, Tony. What I can't understand is why Grand Lodge has not taken steps to assist Lodges in renovating meeting rooms.

I would be interested to hear from those that have renovated lodge rooms and how they went about funding the project?

unfortunately most lodges run as a local entity, and the grand lodge dose have support in the form of a building fund, but this is mainly used in the case of building new lodges, as to the care of a lodge , many don’t have the funds to do them up annually as required, remember that in a meeting night, most a lodge gets are the brethrens gift of money and some of the money from your dues, the rest goes to grand lodge normally.

hope that covers it,
if you are a member then read in the blue rules folder about the building fund ect, as that info is contained in there.

Thank you Bro Macleod,

I have my Lodge By-Laws. Is this what you mean? I've read the By-laws and there is a very small amount of information in that. Is there a different rules folder that i have not received?

I think Neil's talking about the Book of Constitution.
