Hi I run & own ( I wrote it as well ) the NZ based
http://www.linknz.co.nz search engine and I am also a brother of you all from lodge 133 Foxton, you may have noticed a link to the search engine from the links pages of the freemasons website and many others.
Well to help the Freemasons website in being found around the world I have just started to index it into the search engine a whole heap deeper than before, so that it can be found by the hundreds of thousands of people who use my search engine every year and also those people who get the results from it via other Meta search engines that take results from us.
We are now the largest NZ based search engine and also one of the busiest, our servers are in the Hutt Valley.
I will now share with you all the results that we have just found as we indexed the Freemasons website into the search engine. I would doubt if you realise just how big this website is and what you can find within it.
Many of you may have read or heard about search engine webspiders and how they visit websites to make them searchable from the search engines.
We use a webspider or Robot as it is known, to visit a website and to read all the pages and links from the pages into the search engine.
That way when you are looking for something within a search engine we can then give you the results of what websites your search query can be found within.
It does this by travelling down the telephone cables between our servers and where the websites data is stored or hosted and reading all of it into the search engine.
All the words, letters or numbers within the pages are read by the webspider and then stored within the search engine to give the results out to people trying to find them, we call these "Keywords" and they can be between a couple of letters or numbers, in groups of letters or numbers, from between two to over a few thousand characters long. Each new group when found is then stored for the results and as the spider finds a group of them it checks to see if they have ever been found before or are new ones.
Within the Freemasons website, so far we have found the following number of files or pages:
http://www.freemasons.co.nz/ (733 pages) so far!
These files are stored within a directory structure just like those in your computers hard disk.
So far the freemasons website is designed with the following areas or directories within it.
If you look down the list you will see some of the subjects and things that can be found within this website and it is well worth having a surf around it to read some of the interesting things that can be found within it.
Root area.
