History and Background
The Wellington Masonic Association was incorporated under the Charitable Trusts Act 1957 on the 13th December 1960 by Freemasons of the old defined Wellington Masonic District. On the 22nd June 1999 it underwent a change of name to the Wellington Masonic Villages Trust.
The objects of the Trust are set out in the Trust’s Constitution, and centre on the provision of care, services and accommodation for the elderly. Responsibility for administration of the Trust’s affairs is vested in a Board of nine Trustees.
Although the Trust’s roots are traced back to acts of benevolence and support from Freemasonry, the Trust has always accepted any people, irrespective of race, creed or religion into their facilities.
Over the nearly 40 years that the Trust has been providing age related services there has a record of continuous updating and support for new investment in facilities, services and premises appropriate for the changing needs of an ageing population.
The Trust operates three Masonic Villages which are located in Woburn, Levin and Masterton. All enjoy an extremely high reputation within the sector, having achieved independent and professionally assessed “quality assurance” status. The two Rest Home and Hospital facilities, located at Woburn and Levin, have achieved accreditation standard with Quality Health New Zealand over nine years. Our processes and procedures are therefore, consistent with best practice within the aged care sector.
The Trust now administers assets with a value of around $38 million, and provides accommodation and care for nearly 400 residents, through over 150 full and part time staff and caregivers.

The Woburn Masonic Village
The Woburn Masonic Village covers the full spectrum of elderly care with 34 continuing care hospital rooms and 23 rest home rooms - all rooms having ensuite facilities. Of the 28 original pensioner rental flats, 11 have been converted into licensed to occupy residential apartments. Construction of the village commenced in 1966 and further construction and upgrading has periodically continued up to the present time. Just recently a new entrance, front office and interview rooms were added in a renovation that was carried out at a cost of over $1 million.
Woburn also has a fully functional rehabilitation unit with a team of full time health professionals providing physiotherapy, occupational therapy and nursing cares. This unit provides rehabilitation for over 65 year olds in either an in patient or a community based setting. This service has been part of a Ministry of Health national study into supporting ageing in place initiatives.

The Horowhenua Masonic Village
The Horowhenua Masonic Village in Levin is situated on Queen Street East on the northeast side of Levin. The gardens and grounds provide a wonderful environment for the village complex of 51 villas, 28 pensioner rental flats and a 67 bedroom Rest Home which includes a 25 bedroom Hospital wing.
Horowhenua also has a very active specialised rehabilitation unit for older people. Staffing includes full time physiotherapists, occupational therapists, registered nurses and other rehabilitation health professionals. This unit also caters for day patients as well as those accessing in patient services. The facility has an excellent reputation throughout the Horowhenua and draws referrals from as far away as Palmerston North and the Wairarapa.
Facilities that residents in the Village can access include a café which is within the Village hall complex, a library, a beautiful chapel attached to the rest home, a separate administration block, a medical centre offering on site access to a Doctor, and an artificial bowling green.
