Freemasons New Zealand Travel Award
Freemasons New Zealand Science Travel Award
The relationship between Freemasonry and the Royal Society can be traced back to the 1660’s and a lecture by Bro Sir Christopher Wren and Sir Robert Moray, first President of The Royal Society (said to be the first recorded Initiate into Speculative Freemasonry and the Grand Lodge system on English soil.)
Freemasons in New Zealand have been in ventures with the Royal Society of New Zealand for some years, supporting competitions with a scientific bias.
In 2011 The Freemasons Charity agreed to another long term project with the Royal Society of New Zealand to be initially known as: Freemasons New Zealand Science Travel Award.
What is our goal?
To contribute towards the costs of enabling bright young Kiwi students who might be in need to attend scientific events in New Zealand.
What will your money achieve?
Your generosity will enable our scientists of tomorrow to attend science camps around the country by covering the cost of their travel and registration, thereby encouraging students who display merit and ability to expand their researches into the liberal arts and sciences.
What feedback will we receive?
Each year once the applications have closed we have reserved the right to have these inspirational young Kiwis make themselves available to speak to Lodges or Districts about their experiences.
Their names will be recorded with our other Alumni and they will receive regular copies of the Freemason magazine and be kept informed of the Freemasons University Scholarships Programme.
In participating in this project The Freemasons Charity continues its tradition of caring and hopes to allow these talented young people the opportunity to reach their full potential - perhaps another Sir Ernest Rutherford is out there somewhere?
